News
  • Borrow a copy of Beyond the Myth. Thanks to the generous support of Toyota of Kentucky, we have three copies of this eye-opening documentary to lend and show. Beyond the Myth explores the history of breed discrimination in America, and sheds light on what Breed Specific Legislation does, and doesn't, accomplish. Whether you love pit bulls or are wary of them, this film is a must-see - you won't be able to look away! View the trailer here.

  • 14 Ways to Stay Happy and Safe at the Dog Park, from our segment on WKYT on 8.15.13!  Good or bad, the dog park is what we make it - keep these tips in mind to help make your dog park a positive place for everyone.

For Kids

Learning can be lots of fun, especially when you’re learning all about animals! You can learn how to help take the very best care of your pets at home, how to help out pets like the ones at Woodford Humane Society who are waiting for homes, and even how to help wild animals and farm animals stay happy and healthy! Explore this page to find out more about our furry (and scaly, and feathered) friends in the animal world and what you can do to help them out.

For Teachers and Parents

If you’re looking for a way to bring information about animals, empathy, and safety into your classroom or group, we want to help you do it! Browse the classroom programs, or make a special request; we are happy to cater to your needs and share the message of humane treatment for all animals and smart, responsible pet care with your students.

For Adult Pet Owners

Every pet is a new learning experience; we’re here to make the learning curve a little easier! Get tips on all aspects of pet care and training, join us for community events, learn from animal care professionals, and get an inside look at the world of animal sheltering to find out what you can do to help us work for a world in which there are no more homeless pets.

Tours and Field Trips

Get a behind-the-scenes look at Woodford Humane Society’s Adoption Center with one of our educational tours – groups of all sizes and ages welcome! In addition to seeing how our facility works, you’ll learn more about the pets we help and the challenges we – and other organizations across the world – face. To arrange a tour, please email Education Coordinator Julia Johnson

Request Information
